UPJ LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE-ZERAIM
A new initiative from the UPJ
The Union for Progressive Judaism, Australia, New Zealand and Asia is a fast growing dynamic Jewish Movement.
Like many volunteer organizations, those who take on the responsibility of leadership are community minded and
have a vision for their particular institutions. The UPJ recognizes that to move forward in its work and to help
strengthen the congregations and affiliates, it is important to assist them in identifying future leaders who can take
on the responsibility of moving into the future. To this end, the Executive Committee of the UPJ recently approved
the establishment of the UPJ Leadership Institute-Zeraim.
The purpose of the UPJ Leadership Institute-Zeraim is to identify people from the Region who can assume the
mantle of leadership in the near future and continue to work in the community for five years. It is designed to
engage individuals from the Progressive congregations, Netzer and affiliated organizations.
The programme has been designed so that congregations and affiliated organizations may participate as whole units.
Specific curriculum can be developed to assist existing Boards of Management in using the model for limited in-
service work for themselves. The purpose is to assist the enterprise to identify gaps and strengthen the function of
the Boards.
