TZEDEKAH [Charity]
Earlier this year the board decided that it would be a good community move to support some
local charity, as well as any contributions we wish to make to essentially Jewish charities.
To that end a box was placed in the foyer of the synagogue, in which could be placed non-
perishable items of food. These would then be delivered to the Hobart City Mission, as a
Jewish contribution.
If enough is donated then deliveries can be made monthly; if not, then a delivery can be made
to celebrate our main festivals of Pesach, Rosh Hashanah and Chanukah.
Please remember to bring your donations to the synagogue. However, if this is not possible,
please contact either myself Bill Stuart [
6227 8782] or Caroline Heard [
6239 1590] to
arrange collection of items.
With the Rosh Hashanah delivery (3 fairly full shopping bags) there was a note explaining the
size of the congregation, and future hopes/intentions. This note and goodies were well
received by a rather surprised receptionist.
Four full shopping bags were collected at the Chanukah party, and delivered to the City Mission
on Tuesday, December 14th. Again they were gratefully received.

Mandelbaum House is the Jewish student residence at the University of Sydney. We are currently offering
rooms to students for Semester 1 of the next academic year, which starts at the end of February 2005.
Mandelbaum House also has guest rooms for visitors to Sydney who keep kosher or who would simply like
to stay in a Jewish facility.
