NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN FAMILY DAY
In glorious sunshine [what else would one expect here in southern Tasmania in springtime!?!]
approximately 30 people enjoyed a very happy “Family Day”. Our objective was to raise funds to help
cancer research under the “NCJW Banner” … and the result?
Considering the small number of people involved, the even smaller number of people organising the
day, a healthy $200 was raised for this very worthy cause. We had fish on the BBQ, plenty of salads
and good things to eat, a “Bring & Buy” table stocked with interesting things and from Coles
Supermarket, Sandy Bay a wonderful box of kosher goodies as our main raffle prize. One of Patsy
Zadik’s legendary kugelhopf cakes, and a jar of Tasmanian honey rounded off the prizes.
A big “Thankyou” to our hosts – Patsy & Norm Zadik – who let us use their beautiful home and garden
for this fundraising event.
The next time we will all meet will be at the “Chanukah” party on Sunday 12 December and as President
of NCJW Tasmania I will take a moment to read a few words which have been sent to us by our National
President, Robyn Lenn, reminding us of our Founder, Dr Fanny Reading and the link between her birth
in early December and Human Rights Day (10th December).
Tu Bishvat 2005 falls on Tuesday Jan 25. NCJW has paid out the last JNF project, Shlomit children's
project, which was dedicated during an NCJW visit to Israel in early November - now you will hear
about our possible next project choices. The arrangement NCJWA has with JNF enables your tree
certificate purchases to get tax deductibility while we also have the money credited to our project. This
double advantage should assist us to sell more trees.
Council Shabbat 2005 will fall on the weekend of March Fri 18, Sat 19.
Please come to shul on Saturday 19 March to hear a message from NCJW Australia’s National
President.
NCJW Tasmania remembers Lynne Davies AM and her lifelong contribution to Judaism through her
involvement with NCJW, – we wish her family “Long Life”.
