The World Zionist Organization,
The Jerusalem Program and ARZA
What’s the connection?
What Is The World Zionist Congress?
In 1897, Herzl convened Jewish leaders from around the world in Basel, Switzerland to
discuss the condition of the Jewish People. The delegates at the meeting decided to create a
movement whose goal it was to establish a Jewish Homeland and thus the World Zionist
Organization was born.
What is the Jerusalem Program?
The Jerusalem Program is the set of ideals and principles on which all Zionists agree. It was
adopted in 1951 at the 23rd WZO Congress, revised by the 27th Zionist Congress in 1968
and again recently revised at the June 2004 session of the WZO in Jerusalem. The full text
of the Jerusalem program can be found over the page. All affiliates of the Zionist Federation
of Australia are required to accept the Jerusalem Program in order to be accepted as an
affiliate.
