Dear Friends,
In my new capacity as the Executive Director of the Union for Progressive Judaism, I am
initiating a monthly communication with you pertaining to the UPJ. The first week of every
month you will receive information that you can transmit to your congregation or affiliates via
your newsletters, e-mail or hard copy. I hope you find it of value and feel that it connects us
with your congregation.
For this month we are sending you the following items:
A new year greeting from Penny Jakobovits and me
A letter of information about YESH, the King David School trip to Israel in December
A flyer about the Ketubah Design contest sponsored by the Moetzah (separate attachment as a
.pdf file)
A preliminary information registration packet about the upcoming UPJ Conference in November
(brochures will be available the end of August)
Specifications for a Poster to display at the Conference highlighting one aspect of your
institution
A notice from Ian Samuel pertaining to a change in status of ARZI to ARZAit is requested
that this notice be distributed 28 days before the meeting date of October 11. If you are unable
to print it in your newsletter, we are requesting that you distribute it with High Holyday tickets
or during the High Holydays so that people have ample notice of the change.
Thank you to those of you who included UPJ information in your recent newsletters. I recognize
that space is limited, however, I would like to request that, at the minimum, you include the
words Affiliated with the Union for Progressive Judaism, Australia, New Zealand and Asia
somewhere in your masthead or on your editorial page.
I appreciate the warm welcome you have extended to me upon my arrival. I look forward to
working with all of you and doing great things together. Best wishes to you and yours for a
happy, healthy and successful new year and may there be peace in Israel.
Lshalom,
Janice P. Alper
Executive Director
