Isn’t it amazing how time flies? It seems like it was just the other
day that I was writing my last message to you all … and here we are
– nearly at Purim, with Pesach just around the corner! I hope all
our readers enjoyed a pleasant summer – happily it wasn’t too hot
here! Hobart and Tasmania are popular holiday destinations and
we welcomed a lot of interstate and overseas visitors to our shul.
It’s always a delight to meet and greet everyone, to show our
historic shul to you all …
This is a very big year for the Hobart shul: on 4 July 2005 we will
celebrate our 160th anniversary! Not surprisingly for Hobart, we
don’t think that early July is the best time to ‘showcase’ our shul, so
please be patient, as we have a major event planned towards the
end of November, when we will be approaching summer.
In early March I travelled to Canberra, representing this
congregation and was privileged to meet President Moshe Katsav.
I presented him with a duly inscribed copy of our book “A Few From
Afar: Jewish Lives in Tasmania from 1804”.
