NEWS FROM THE BOARD
Some of the topics discussed at recent Board meetings were:
A register of resolutions and motions made during the last ten years of Board and Annual General
Meetings has been compiled.
The Furniture Historical Society visited the shul and left behind some very informative notes.
They are held in the office if anyone would like to read them.
Bill Stuart took nearly 4 shopping bags of groceries to the Hobart City Mission as a result of
people's donations of non-perishable goods brought to the Chanukah party.
Miriam Beer has retired as Tasmanian JNF representative and Caroline will temporarily take on
this position but someone else should be found to take this on.
JNF Australia is striking a medal to be presented to Holocaust survivors. Survivors residing in
Tasmania are being identified and contacted to ask if they would like to receive the medal.
New carpet has been ordered for the downstairs area of the shul.
Approval has been obtained from the Heritage Council to put protective glass or polycarbonate
over the shul's windows. Quotes are currently being sought.
John Markus who owns the Elizabeth Mall delicatessen has indicated that he is willing to bring in
kosher food for the community. The store already stocks some kosher food.
The Israeli Embassy and the State Cinema reported they were happy with the attendances at the
Israeli Film Festival held in January 2005.
A music event is being planned by Joseph Toltz from Temple Emanuel of Sydney together with
Rabbi Levi from Melbourne in celebration of the shul's 160th anniversary. The Executive Council
of Australian Jewry is considering holding its AGM in Hobart to help with the celebration but this
has not yet been confirmed.
Some improvements will begin to be made to the Board room upstairs eg improved lighting, a
new table and heating
