President's Piece
FROM THE EDITOR
Dear Chaverim (meaning both members and friends),
Chag Pesach (Passover) is coming upon us and this year we are extremely
fortunate to be redelivered out of Egypt by the competent leadership of Rabbi John
Levi. Another approaching event that is important to mention is Yom HaShoah, a
memorial ceremony on Holocaust Day, at the Hobart Shul on April 15, 6pm. All are
welcome to attend.
Weve had a long break since the last edition of Chaverim. Highlights since then
included Chanukah services officiated by the famous Rabbi, very well attended
Chanukah and Purim parties, and a recent visit by Mrs and Mr Tamir, the Israeli
ambassador, whose visit to Hobart coincided with a trip to Hobart of a large group
of Victorian Bnei Brit Jews. The Shul was very full that night.
.
In this newsletter you will find some very interesting articles, amongst them 2
contributions by Rabbi John Levi and a thought provoking piece about the
connection of Passover and modern day slavery by Will Howard.
A big thank you is extended to all who have contributed items to this newsletter and
to all those who donate their time and energy to make this little community so
active. And another thing, while you are reading this Chaverim, please start
planning for the next Chaverims edition. If you have something to share that might
interest other people in the community, please dont keep it to yourselves. Wed
love to hear your voice!
From Michal, your new editor
