UPJ CONFERENCE 2007
The next UPJ National Conference will be held in Hobart between 18 and 21 October.   This will be
followed by a Rabbis Meeting between 21 and 24 October.    As the host congregation we can
attend, so now might be a good time to 'pencil' the Conference dates in your diary, however details,
including the cost are still to be determined by the national body of the UPJ.
The national body is responsible for determining content of the Conference, and the Hobart Hebrew
Congregation has responsibility for those things best dealt with locally.    This includes locating a
suitable venue and then liaising with the venue operators to ensure everything runs smoothly with
the accommodation, the equipment and meals that cover the needs of delegates.    The host
congregation will also be responsible for assisting with registration and greeting delegates.
Susan Steenbergen, Patsy Zadik and Debbie Brown make up the Local Arrangement Committee
for the Hobart Hebrew Congregation and have been busy contacting local hotels to find a suitable
venue.   The Committee has received quotes from a couple of hotels, and the decision as to which
one is suitable lies with David Robinson, Vice President of UPJ, who was in Hobart on 4 March.
At this stage we are expecting about 70-80 national /international delegates to attend the
Conference with about 25-30 delegates attending the Rabbis Meeting.
As more information on the organisation of the Conference and Meeting is made available to the
Local Arrangement Committee, Congregation members will be asked to 'pitch in' and help.
