Biography

President of the congregation, son of Isaac Benjamin and father of board members Albert Gray and George Benjamin. Originally from Dunedin, New Zealand, Benjamin immigrated to Hobart in the 1890s and ran a family confectionary shop on Liverpool Street. Benjamin attended every Shabbat service and refused to take holidays from Hobart, for fear that no one else would run the service.
