MINUTES
Minutes of Meeting held on the 13th August, were read and confirmed

FINANCES
The Treasurer presented the Balance Sheet for the year ending 30th June, 1947, from which it was evident that the financial position of the Congregation is less favourable than a year previously.  This was brought about firstly by the fact that considerable repair works has to be carried out at the Synagogue, and secondly by the salary which is being paid to the Minister.  At the present rate of salary the liquid assets of the Congregation would be exhausted within 2 years.  The Treasurer therefore suggested that the salary of the Minister be reduced, so that the finances of the Congregation should not be too heavily taxed.  In this connection reference was made to the meeting, held on the 19th February, when Rev. Warse was introduced to the Committee.  An extract of the minutes of above mentioned meeting reads as follows:

SALARY OF MINISTER
A remuneration of £520 per annum is to be paid to Rev Warse, however it was pointed out that this represents a considerable sacrifice to the Community owing to its present small membership.  The Committee therefore has no objections. on the contrary it would welcome if Rev. Warse utilises his other abilities in order to increase his income, so that gradually the burden of the Community could be made lighter.  This would make engagement for a longer period feasible.

After an animated debate the following resolution was brought in: --
Rev. Warse be advised that owing to the financial position of the Congregation the Board of Management is reluctantly compelled to state that a weekly salary of £10-0-0 cannot be carried any longer and that a salary of £6-0-0 per week could be offered.  If Rev. Warse desires to have a contract for a specified period the Committee would be prepared to consider this.

Moved by Mr. Jacob, seconded by Mr. Coronel.

Service
Mr. Chase expressed his disapproval with the conduct of the Service in so far as only three people are called up to the Thora, as against the customary seven. However it was pointed out to Mr. Chase that the Committee has agreed to leave the Conduct of the Service entirely in the hands of Rev. Warse.

The General Meeting of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation was fixed for Wednesday, 22nd October, 1947.

The meeting then closed.
