PRESENT
Present: Mr. Epstein in the chair, Messrs. Chase, H. Jacob, Newman, Seidel, Mrs. Fixel
MINUTES
Minutes of Meeting held 10th January were read and confirmed as a true record.
Mr. ABRAMS
Letter from Mr. Abrams was read, requesting assistance of the Congregation towards the purchase of a home, as the family has to vacate their present house within several months.
After a lengthy discussion and considering the application by its merits, the following resolution was passed:
Resolution
The Philanthropic Fund of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation will provide Mr. & Mrs. Abrams with a guarantee of up to Seven Hundred (£700) Pounds, which are to be backed up by guarantees by individual members of the Congregation thus enabling them to borrow enough money from the Bank for the purchase of a house, provided Mr. & Mrs. Abrams put up themselves £400 and assign to the Congregation the Life Insurance Policy Mr. Abrams is holding. The selection of a house to be supervised by a member of the Board.
Moved by Mr. C. Epstein, seconded Mr. H. Jacob, Mr. Chase abstainededgnfrom voting as he is of the opinion that the Funds of the Congregation should not become involved in such a transaction.
Mr. Chase volunteered to assist Mr. & Mrs. Abrams in selecting a house and to carry through the purchase. Mr. Epstein is arranging to find the financial backing by individual members,
SUNDRY
An incidence which happened recently at the Synagogue was discussed and it was unanimously decided to write to the member concerned and requesting him to apologise, otherwise the Board would tender his apologies towards Rev. Ruben.
