Minutes of meeting held 9th January, 1952 at the Board Room of the Synagogue.

PRESENT
Messrs H.J. Jacob (Chairman) C. Epstein, E. Jacob, Newman, Popper, Ruben (by special invitation Mrs. Fixel.  Apology by Mr. Chase

MINUTES
Minutes of meeting, held 9th August, 1951 were read and confirmed as correct.  Moved Mr. H. Jacob, seconded Mr. Newman

RESTITUTION from Germany
The E.C.A.J. submitted the proposed text of a resolution regarding Policy on Jewish claims against Germany.  This matter is to be discussed at a Conference on Jewish Claims, to be held in New York on 14th January, and directions have to be sent to the representative of the E.C.A.J. Dr. Perlzweig.  The question is whether negotiations are to be conducted direct with Germany or through the United Nations.  The E.C.A.J. expressed the view that negotiations should be conducted NOT direct with Germany, but through the United Nations.

After a lengthy discussion the following resolution was adopted: "Not being familiar with the subject the Hobart Hebrew Congregation is prepared to follow the lead given by Melbourne that negotiations be conducted through the United Nations." moved by Mr. H. Jacob, seconded by Mr. Epstein. (voting 4 in favour, 2 against).

GERMAN MIGRATION
Report of E.C.A.J. on German migration policy read out, and this matter is one for the bigger communities and Hobart can only take note of what is being done there.

CHIEF Rabbi 
Report submitted regarding forthcoming visit of the Chief Rabbi and it is to be put on record how much the Hobart Community is looking forward to the visit.  The arrangement of a suitable reception is to be left in the hands of Mrs. H. Jacob.

LAUNCESTON
Rev. Ruben requested permission to pay regular visits to Launceston, and it was approved that he could go there once a month.
