Hobart Hebrew Congregation Sunday April 30th 1911

Present
Mr S Benjamin President in the Chair
Misters M Epstein, D Nathan, N Levi, T Harris, Geo Levy, J Glasser & M Benjamin

A Special General Meeting held on above date at Vestry room Synagogue Chambers. Business: To elect a Trustee in place of the late Mr H Ansell, to elect Committee men and Hon Sec.

Moved by President & seconded by D Nathan that a letter of condolence be sent to family of late Mr H Ansell – carried. The President expressed the deep sympathy & regret the community had sustained by his loss & (???) of his many good qualities, & the great assistance he had rendered to our community and that a record be placed in the minute book.

Nominated by Mr D Nathan & seconded by Mr N Levi that Mr M M Benjamin be appointed trustee in place of the late Mr H Ansell.

Nominated by Mr T Harris & seconded by Mr Geo Levy that Mr M Benjamin be appointed Trustee. The President took the vote by show of hands to the election of Mr Epstein. The voting being three Mr T Harris, G Levy & J Glasser. Mr T Harris handed the Hon Sec. a proxy vote from Mr S Benjamin making the voting 4, in favour of Mr Epstein. The President then took the vote by show of hands for the election of M M Benjamin the voting being three, Misters D Nathan, N Levi & ??? Benjamin. The President gave his deliberate vote & ruling both in favour of M M Benjamin declaring him duly elected as a trustee making the voting

The President addressed the Meeting and said, there seems to be some disaffection among the members, & he would therefore resign his Presidency of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation. On a point of order being raised on the legality of the President’s vote. The meeting terminated.
