Annual General Meeting of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation held in the Synagogue Chambers Argyle St on Sunday May 8th 1932.

Present: Messrs A.G. Benjamin (President) D. Mendes. S. Glasser M. Davis R. Benjamin H. Epstein P. Raphael. M. Raphael I Morris M. Cary B. Rubenstein the Hon Secretary (Mr G Benjamin).

Minutes 1: Moved by P. Raphael Seconded by I. Morris that minutes last Annual meeting be confirmed cd.

2: Moved by S. Glasser seconded by M Davis at minutes of Special meeting 20/3/1932 be confirmed carried

3: Moved by I. Morris Seconded by H. Epstein that minutes of Comt’ee Meeting 18/4/1932 be confirmed -cd

Investments Moved by I. Morris Seconded by P. Raphael That information be obtained as to our investments with the Perpetual Investment Company cd.

Election of Offices: Note The president declared all offices vacant and vacated the chair –
Mr M. Caro occupied the chair during the election of president.

1 President moved by I. Morris Seconded by S. Glasser that Mr. A.G. Benjamin be re-elected. Elected unopposed.

2. Vice president moved by M. Davis Seconded by P. Raphael that Mr. D. Mendes be elected.
Elected unopposed.

3. Treasurer moved by G Benjamin seconded by H. Epstein that Mr . S. Glasser be re-elected.
Elected unopposed

4. Secretary moved by S. Glasser seconded by P Raphael the Mr. G. Benjamin be re-elected.
Elected unopposed

5. Auditors moved by S. Glasser Seconded by H. Epstein that Mr. M. Davis be re-elected.
Elected unopposed Moved by I. Morris Seconded by Mr B. Rubenstein that Mr. M. Caro be elected auditor also Election officer.

6. Trustees moved by S. Glasser moved by I Morris that Mr M. Davis and Mr G Benjamin be elected Trustees of the Congregation.

7. Trustees to Philanthropic Fund moved by S. Glasser Seconded by I. Morris that three members be elected as trustees instead of two. After lengthy discussion the motion was carried (6 – 3) Moved by M. Davis Seconded H. Epstein that Mr. D. Mendes be elected
Trustee – the nominee declined

a) Moved by B. Rubenstein Seconded M. Davis that Mr. P. Raphael be elected. Elected unopposed

b) Moved by M. Caro Seconded by I. Morris that I. Morris be elected. Elected
unopposed

c) That G. Benjamin Seconded by I Morris that Mr H Epstein be elected. Elected unopposed

8 Committee of Management

Moved by G. Benjamin Seconded I Morris

That President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Mr. M. Davis, Mr. M. Caro, Mr. P. Raphael be elected – Elected unopposed

Mr Susman: Moved by S. Glasser Seconded B Rubenstein that Mr M Susman be notified of the next Annual general meeting – carried

Services: Moved by M Caro seconded by I Morris that services be held on Friday at 5.30pm and Sabbath at 10 am Cd

Reader: Moved by M. Caro Seconded by I. Morris That president’s offer to officiate be accepted. Cd.

Prayer books Moved by B. Rubenstein Seconded by J. Morris that the congregation procure two dozen Daily Prayer Books:- 1 doz for publication in the Synagogue and 1 doz for sale. Cd

Ladies Moved by M. Caro seconded by P. Raphael that ladies be accommodated downstairs.

Repairs to Synagogue Moved by J. Morris seconded by P. Raphael that the Committee be authorised to effect the necessary repairs to the synagogue.
Carried

Harrington Street Cemetery Moved by J. Morris Seconded by P. Raphael that a committee be appointed to wait on the Perpetual Trustees concerning Harrington Street Cemetery.

Moved by P. Raphael Seconded by H. Epstein that Pres, Sec & Treasurer constitute committee.

Membership

1. Moved by I. Morris Seconded by M. Davis That Jewish Residents of Tasmania[ (of two months residence) initialled by G.B.] who have subscribed the annual payment of 2/6 (two shillings and sixpence) shall become members of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation at the expiration of the period of two months from the date of payment.
Carried

That all present be accepted as members on payment of the prescribed fee of 2/6.

Appreciation

1. Moved by G. Benjamin Seconded by S. Glasser that a letter of appreciation be forwarded to the Hobart Public cemetery Board for the manner in which the Jewish Section has been
kept. Cd

2.That a letter of appreciation be forwarded to Mr. H. Glover for his serves while acting President of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation

Thanks to Chair Moved by M. Caro Seconded by I. Morris that a vote of thanks be accorded to the chairman.
