The Minutes of the Committee Meeting held in the synagogue chambers 4 Feb 1940

R Benjamin (Chairman), A G Benjamin, C Epstein, H Epstein, J Edwards, S Glasser


An apology was accepted from Mr Coronel through short notice as meeting was called in a hurry.

Minutes

The minutes of Committee Meeting were confirmed of the 23 Oct 1939.

Moved by Mr R Benjamin, seconded by H Epstein that quotes be obtained for New Year, Day of Atonement books and tallisim.

Moved S Glasser, seconded C Epstein that Dunn & Sons be advised through V Coronel to clean asphalt and freestone and suggest darkening steps.

Moved C Epstein, seconded S Glasser that 10/6 be spent on purchasing a suitable gift for Mr R A Coupe for auditing the books for the last financial year.

Moved C Epstein, seconded J Edwards that Mr Berkoff be allowed to read at the invitation of the President during the President’s pleasure.

Moved A G Benjamin, seconded J Edwards that the chairwoman be approached immediately re opening Shul on Friday nights from 5.50 to 6.30 and be allowed 30/- a month instead of 27/-

Moved A G Benjamin, seconded S Glasser that applications be called in principal newspapers in Australia, Jewish and otherwise for “A Anglo Jewish Officiating Minister” for the Hobart Hebrew Congregation. References and qualifications must be given.

Moved A G Benjamin, seconded S Glasser that the membership of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation be 5/- per year.

Moved S Glasser, seconded J Edwards that no person not a financial member, nor any person who has not been a resident of Tasmania for one calendar year shall be entitled to vote at a meeting of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation.

Moved A G Benjamin, seconded H Epstein that the Secretary and Mr C Epstein be a sub-committee to form a draft of by laws for the Hobart Hebrew Congregation.

A note of thanks to the chairman the meeting was declared closed.
